Martial Arts Training

Dai Sifu Vik

Vik Hothi Dai Sifu Vik has been practicing martial arts for nearly 20 years.  After achieving a black belt in karate at an early age and winning many local tournaments he moved on to WTF (full contact) Tae Kwon Do and became regional champion, training with the Great Britain squad. He was introduced to Leung Ting's Wing Tsun in 1995 and became the youngest 1st TG (black belt) at the age of 17. Sifu Vik opened his first  class at age 18 and a little while after started training in Brazilian Jujitsu and Muay Thai boxing. Looking for an effective weapons system, Sifu Vik found Escrima and training with 'Big' Paul Leslie and Master Steve Tappin in 2001.

As a competitive martial artist Sifu Vik became the WT Fighter Club champion, and eventually coach, after fighting and winning 100 full contact limited rules fights (with head guard).  Sifu Vik has also fought in MMA competitions an most recently in the 'Call2Arms' Escrima/MMA arena, whilst obtaining the British Kombata Full Contact Stick Fighting title (no pads on sticks) at the biggest martial arts show in Europe, Seni ’08. What really made this win so impressive was that the Sifu was made to fight at heavyweight despite being at middleweight and the fact he obtained no damage whatsoever despite using real sticks.

Sifu Vik's pursuit of martial arts excellence led him to begin his studies in sports science and physical culture, and as a result was one of the first people in Europe to use Kettlebells for martial arts in Europe (2000). Recognising that leading-edge training techniques require an increased focus on the safety of the martial artist or athlete being taught, Sifu Vik sought and acquired certification from some of the most respected sports science coaches in the world - Pavel Tsatsouline and Scott Sonnon, becoming the only instructor in Europe qualified in Russian Kettlebells (RKC) obtaining Coach level in Circular Strength Training (CST) as well as becoming certified under record breaking and world champion Valery Fedorenko and the WKC.  Sifu Vik is now a highly-respected sports and martial arts coach, having trained K-1 and Escrima champions. Sifu then furthered his knowledge into the rehabilitation field by obtaining corrective health exercise and structural bodywork qualificaions off leading experts Paul Chek and the worlds leading authority in fascial bodywork, Tom Myers. He then decided to research and follow the more energetic systems and studied and gained qualifications in Chinese Tui Na and Chakra healing from Yoga systems.

Sifu Vik is the longest serving practitioner of WT in the UK , completing the whole WT system. and is the most experienced instructor in the practical use of the art, both in the competitive arena and on the 'street', having worked as a Door Supervisor for a number of years.

Sifu Vik is now the Chief Instructor for IMAS, using his in-depth knowledge of martial arts and sports science to produce superior martial artists in a rapid timescale and as well as the continual development of the WT system his main goal is to help as many people as he can obtain mastery of this system and of themselves as quickly and honestly as possible.

Sigung Cliff Alderson

Cliff Anderson Sigung Cliff Alderson began martial arts training in 1973. He first studied Shotokan Karate and then Wu Zhu Quan kung fu (Five Ancestors Fist), before training at Master James Russell’s Chinese boxing school in London. He then did seven years service with the British military, working with elite units.

Cliff started studying Wing Tsun kung fu in West Germany in 1983 and continued learning with another Master when he moved to England. In 1996 after teaching for several years and completing the four boxing forms he was awarded the title of Sifu as is traditional in Wing Tsun kung fu circles.

Cliff has run several Wing Tsun schools over the years some of which were in London, Slough and Taplow. Some of his former students are now Masters, UK and World champions in various martial arts systems.

He instructed Wing Tsun in the UK from 1992 to 2002, before retiring from teaching for several reasons, one being to devote more time to extreme sports such as mountaineering and long distance cycling.

With the opening of IMAS in 2007 Cliff was impressed with many of the concepts developed by the founding instructors: The objective and scientific approach to training, honest and direct teaching methods, the excellent curriculum which enabled students to make rapid progress, the focus on modern sports science and the “no games and no secrets” attitude.

In March 2008 he started practicing Wing Tsun once again, with his former student Sifu Vik Hothi. Cliff is now Senior Adviser to IMAS and teaches Wing Tsun and Chi Gung (Qi Gong).

Chi Gung is an ancient energy science developed over thousands of years in the far-east, it is related to martial arts and some components of it are similar to Kundalini Yoga. Cliff has been practicing Chi Gung since 1975.

Sigung Cliff enjoys old school intensive training, Chi Gung, iron palm and all types of weapons training. He has a big interest in martial arts history and has made a lifelong study of medieval weapons, particularly Japanese swords.

Cliff's interests outside of martial arts include mountaineering and free-climbing, shooting, mountain-biking, cycling and wilderness trekking.

Nav Khara

Nav Khara Following Nav Khara's years of sporting proficiency, from school captain of sporting teams such as the football, cricket, basketball teams, he also has had an extensive judo history. Nevertheless, his search for the most efficient martial arts system, in accordance to his personal needs, which were Self-Defence, in its most crucial but simplistic/aggressive nature, was answered when he visited Dai Sifu Vik's WingTsun class in Langley.

In the year 2003, he began his first steps into a very bright but vigorous future. Since then, Nav Khara has been practising Wing Tsun for 5 years under the instruction of Dai Sifu Vik and Dai Si Hing Sunny, and only after his second year, became one of the first closed door students of the Dai Sifu Vik. After many hard training sessions and countless moments of dedication towards the newly formed IMAS organisation, Nav Khara has been enrolled on to the Instructor Trainee Course.

Over time, Nav Khara is now nearing the end of the course in many different instructor topics, such as being able to teach the adult Wing Tsun classes and the Kids Kung Fu classes. Following Nav Khara’s 5 years of tuition from Dai Sifu Vik and Dai Si Hing Sunny, Nav has finally arrived to the most crucial stage in the Wing Tsun curricular, where the transformation from advance student to primary/senior instructor becomes crucial.

Nav Khara has also earned his place as the lead assistant instructor under the supervision of Dai Sifu Vik and Dai Si Hing Sunny. Adding to his repertoire he is also the top Assistant Kids Martial Arts Instructor and is on the Escrima Weapons Instructor program, having experience also in sombo, judo and grappling as well.

Through the years of his Martial Arts training, Nav Khara has found that his fellow instructors have aided the many difficult challenges he has had to face in life. Thus learning the discipline, self awareness and knowledge of the arts he has been taught, to now be able to apply them to his everyday life. Due to the endless knowledge passed down to him by his intructors, Nav Khara has taken it upon himself to help the IMAS organisation grow and live on as he understands the importance of having the guidance and self belief to overcome life’s challenges. He wishes to pass down the knowledge to all that are adherent to it.

Gavindeep Khara

Gav Khara Gavindeep Khara (Gav) is one of the longest serving students in the IMAS organisation till this present day. His abilities are a great credit to the ever high standards that are developed/taught by the IMAS organisation.

Gav has been under the direct instruction of Dai Sifu Vik Hothi himself for the past 6 years, and has also had the honour to train side by side with Dai Si Hing Sunny, for a considerable amount of time. Gav has now reached the stage where he is himself training for his 1st Technician grade, to join the reputable instructor team. Gav has gained a vast amount of experience in assisting in classes and helping those who were once at his stage, in their very own Wing Tsun careers/life. Gav has reaped a huge advantage from being a dedicated student to Dai Sifu Vik, to not only become as skilled and talented as he is, but to also become very knowledgeable in different sectors of Health and Wellbeing/Fitness.

This involves great skill and knowledge based around health/fitness techniques such as Kettle bells and Club bells, but also Body Mechanics and far gone Prasara Yoga.

Other benefits of being a training assistant to Dai Sifu Vik, has given Gav the opportunity to train in other arts such as Escrima, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) and Sombo, and is now on his way to becoming a grappling coach of IMAS. Another direction that Gav has taken is to become a kid’s instructor, running his own classes, teaching and helping to educate kids in self defence and to become a role model and leader in life, to conquer the many things which life holds.

Jamie Baxter

Jamie Baxter Jamie Baxter is one of the fastest progressing students in the IMAS organisation. Jamie has been a student of Sifu Vik Hothi's for 2 years and a private student of Dai Sihing Sunny Riyat for the majority of his time with the organisation. Jamie is at the stage of becoming an advanced level student and also on the path to be a Full instructor in the IMAS team. In his time with IMAS he has trained Escrima and Sombo from courses and seminars but learns his Wing Chun as a private student of Sunny's, and by also being a part of Sifu Vik's Elite Intructor Team.

Jamie has a willingness to learn but also the natural ability to teach and is putting in the time and effort to get him to a stage where he can pass on his knowledge of the system. His natural talent and passion to instruct comes from years of personal and communistic services, as a leader, and valuable part of a team. These services include playing football at a Semi Pro level for Hillingdon FC for 2 years and 1 year with Beaconsfield, where due to his talents, was offered several American scholarships to play 'soccer' at various colleges in America. He also learned to be extremely successful at teaching from his years of experience with working with children of all different ages, and at all different types of 'Holiday Camps'; throughout the year, with his most recent work being with 'Livinix'.

Jamie got injured in his football season of 07/08 with a torn groin muscle which is the worse injury for a footballer as it takes time to get back from. However, he was then recently introduced to IMAS Martial Arts. Jamie learned special stretches to perform at home and certain ways to use his body, which lead to a rapid recovery from his injuries. He can now confidently say "I feel much more flexible and able to use my body to a higher potential."

With this new influx of knowledge and skill, Jamie has now found a passion, from which he has become a very talented and ambitious person; who has decided to lead the new generation of elite students to a even higher level standard of skill, that he has acquired with his time at IMAS....However, his drive to succeed has now made him even more driven to catch up to Dai Si Hing Sunny and Dai Sifu Vik, as both instructors have seen a potential in Jamie, to become the next best thing.
